When I first contemplated using wool from our flock of Clun Forest sheep, my GRAND plan was to become that picturesque, calm and contented woman in a comfy chair knitting (or crocheting) lovely little mittens, hats, socks…
Then I tried it. I did not like it. I simply do not have the patience for that craft, nor did it feel like a fun creative outlet for me. It was more frustrating than fun.
So, I searched and found another way to use wool that was potentially more fun and definitely creative, Needle Felting. After a quick online class, I discovered Needle Felting is not only fun-ish, it is also easy and inexpensive to get into.
Finding fun ways to re-purpose and promote heritage breed sheep wool with needle felted 3 dimensional items to include Pots of Chicks and Hens, Lucky Lambs and Dryer Balls.
Our goal right now is to explore wool preparation from our sheared sheep fleeces and turn that into batting, to then turn that into wool projects to share with the world.
In my ideal world, there are dryer balls galore (made from heritage breed wool, of course) and more and more folks are using less and less chemical fabric softeners and choosing instead to use a natural fabric softner, wool dryer balls. A girl can dream….
