Chick-in Check-in

So, it has been about a month since we introduced the Delaware’s to our flock and I am very happy to report, birds of a feather really do flock together.

Pecking order re-establishment is going smooth-ish and there is a general sense of welcoming with open wings of our new comers.

The Delaware hens took a little bit longer to settle in, but not our Roo, Del. He is… um…. let’s just say he is getting very comfortable with most of the the lady birds. Some of our stronger and more independent ladies are proving a bit harder for him to impress, but he gets an A+ for effort.

Our goal is not just to have Del a part of the flock as a protector from aerial predators, but to also allow us to hatch out some Delaware chicks next Spring for selling, for building on the quality of our flock and of course, continued promotion of this beautiful and sweet dual purpose heritage breed chicken.
